Hiking Adventure: Houghton Falls Nature Preserve in Washburn, WI

As first light breeched the horizon, illuminating the sea cliffs in the distance, Stacia & Josh said their vows to each other. It was such an intentional and intimate moment to witness. Two people promising to love and experience this adventure called life together forever. It was magical y’all!

These two knew going into wedding planning that they wanted something completely focused on them with some adventure. So we worked together to plan the day in a way where they could say their vows on the beach at sunrise, completely secluded from anyone else followed by some light adventuring at a nearby canyon on Lake Superior, to celebrate!

Houghton Falls Nature Preserve is actually a privately owned area, filled with some of my favorite nature scenes in Northern Wisconsin. At first you hike through the woods a ways to the first sight of the canyon. After hiking down into it, depending on the time of year, you come across the cutest little set of falls (aka Houghton Falls). Beyond the canyon is a trail straight to the lake with some views of the sandstone shelves made from the crashing waves of Lake Superior. It’s truly the perfect place to explore, hike and celebrate!
